Tree to 35-40 m, without suckers. Twigs rather stout, ± hispid especially when young. Leaves to 16 x 8 cm, broadly obovate to elliptic, often 3-lobed in upper part, long-cuspidate to acuminate, sharply serrate, scabrid above, coarsely to finely pubescent beneath. Petiole very short and ±overlapped by auriculate base of longer side of lamina. Samara broadly obovate to elliptic, to 2.5 cm, glabrous or sometimes pubescent in middle; seed central in samara. Fl. 3-4. Mixed deciduous forest, 100-1800 m.
