Biennial, 30-150 cm, glabrous below, with stalked or sessile glands above. Stem terete below, subangular above, simple or with few branches. Basal leaves sessile or shortly petiolate, oblong to lanceolate, 3-25 x 1-7 cm, obtuse, crenate or lobed; cauline smaller, upper oblong-lanceolate to ovate-triangular, acutish or acute, crenate to dentate, subcordate at base. Inflorescence simple, lax, many-flowered. Bracts shorter than pedicels, lower broadly or narrowly ovate, dentate, upper lanceolate, entire. Pedicels 5-25 mm, ebracteolate. Calyx 5-8 mm, lobes lanceolate, acute or subobtuse. Corolla yellow, 20-30 mm diam., without pellucid glands, with glandular hairs outside. Filament hairs purple-violet, 2 anterior filaments glabrous at apex, anthers 2-3 mm, decurrent. Capsule globose, 5-8 mm, glandular. Fl. 5-7. Waste places, roadsides, macchie, sand-dunes, s.l-1330 m.
