Perennial, 15-40 cm, producing long, leafy stolons rooting at nodes. Flowering stems branched, leafy. Radical and lower stem leaves trisect, segments 2-3-lobed or partite, incised-dentate, glabrous or pilose, at least the middle segment long-stalked. Peduncles sulcate. Sepals spreading. Petals 7-14 mm. Torus hairy. Achenes semiorbicular, strongly compressed, 3 mm, margin keeled, beak lanceolate, uncinate, 1 mm. Pl. 5-7. Wet places, s.l.-2450 m.
Europe, N. Africa, S.W. Asia. A very variable species.
