Annual , 15-50 cm, erect, unbranched or ± branched in middle , blackening when dry. Stems usually solid, usually glabrous, rarely glandular-pubescent. All leaves sessile, 25-35 x 3-8 mm, glabrous or with very scattered glandular hairs , base truncate, apex acute, margins serrulate to subentire. Racemes 15-80 , 20-60-flowered with 4-6 pedicels per cm in fruit, glandular-puberulent with 0,05-0,15 mm glandular hairs , rarely glabrous. Bracts linear to subulate, acute. Fruiting pedicels 3-5 mm, 1,5-2 x bracts, subpatent to erecto-patent or slightly arcuate. Calyx 1,2-2 mm in flower. Corolla pale blue, pale lilac or white with purple veins, 3-5 mm diam. Style 1-1,5 mm. Capsule elliptic, 2-3 x 1,7-2,3 mm, 1-2 x calyx, with very scattered minute glandular hairs, apex slightly emarginate. Seeds 40-60, elliptic to suborbicular, plano-convex, 0,4-0,6 x 0,3-0,4 mm, with dot-like chalaza. FI. 4-7. Wet places: Liquidambar forest, streamsides, marshes, ditches, coastal dunes, saline soils, cultivated land, s.I.-1050 m.
