Plants usually small, 10-30 cm. Leaves 3-5, near base. Flowers 3-6 , rather large, showy. Sepals broadly ovate, obtuse, 15 x 10 mm, rose-purple or whitish-rose. Petals triangular, 1/3-1/2 x sepals, rose-purple, pubescent. Labellum entire, rectangular to fan-shaped, 15 mm, with slight swellings on each side of base, densely pubescent, maroon with ±broad yellow or brownish marginal zone, front deeply notched with upcurved yellow appendix, with tuft-of longer hairs above sinus; speculum reduced to a greyish-blue ribbon, surrounding the basal area. Column obtuse. Fl. 3-4. Grassy limestone slopes, phrygana, macchie, olive groves, Pinus forest, s.l-500 m.
