Bulb to 3 cm diam., usually with bu1b1ets and sometimes stolons. Stem 6-20 cm, sometimes papillose below. Leaves 3-8, glaucous, lowest 2.5-8 x 0.5-2.4 cm, broadly to narrowly lanceolate. Flowers 1-2; perianth narrowly campanulate, purplish to greyish outside, yellowish-orange or greenish inside; outer segments lanceolate, usually acute or rounded, 1.5-2.5 x 0.5-0.8 cm, inner broader, usually obtuse. Nectaries linear-lanceolate, 3-5 x 1-1.5 mm, 1 mm above perianth base. Filaments 6-11 mm, usually swollen, papillose. Style 7-10 mm, slender to stout, undivided or 3-fid at apex; branches 1-2 mm. Capsule not winged. Fl. 4-6. Rocky hillsides and upland steppe, often by late snow patches, 1000-2500 m.
