Annual, without a rhizome, caespitose or 1-stemmed. Stems 1-20 cm, with several basal leaves. Leaves narrow, flat to canaliculate, auricles absent. Inflorescence of 1-4 heads, each with 2 leaf-like bracts and usually 5-10 flowers; involucral bracteoles absent. Outer perianth segments 3-4 mm, ovate, acuminate; inner shorter, acute, almost entirely scarious. Stamens 3, 1/2-2/3 x perianth; anthers 0.2-0.7 mm, c. 1/2 x filaments. Capsule 1.5-2 mm, light to dark reddish brown, ovoid to globose, mucro short or absent. Seeds c. 0.3 mm. Fl. 4-6. Wet or temporarily wet soil and grassland, margins of streams, s.l.-1900 m.
