Tubers 1-2. Stem 19-30 cm. Leaves linear, quadrangular, 30-70 cm x 1.5-4 mm. Spathe valve 1. Flowers yellowish-green except for blackish-velvety limb of falls. Hypanthial tube c. 5 mm, infundibular. Falls 4-6 x 1-2 cm, claw iridescent outside, limb shorter than claw, with narrow yellow border and yellow signal patches near base, emarginate. Standards green, 2-2.6 cm, narrowly ovate, cucullate, very slender, narrowed at base, broadening at middle then tapering into a long filiform cusp. Styles 4-6 cm, deeply bifid at apex, lacerately toothed at margins. Anthers 8-18 mm. Capsule narrowly ellipsoid, fertile portion gradually tapered to base, 16-28 x 2.5-7 mm, sterile portion 5-8 mm. Fl. 3.
Italy, Greece, Aegean. E. Medit. element. Var. tuberosus  occurs mainly in the W. Mediterranean.
