Plant 7-15 cm. Bulb sometimes producing many bulblets at base. Leaves 2, scarcely visible to slightly exceeding flower at anthesis, elongating to 30 cm in fruit stage, 4-angled or ± terete with 8 ribs. Bract green, rather rigid and closely sheathing perianth tube. Perianth tube 4-7 cm; falls 3.8-5 cm, blue, violet or purple, usually with a dark lamina and a paler, strongly veined claw and yellow median ridge; claw 2.1-3 x 0.5-1 cm;lamina ovate, 1.1-1.8 0.7-1.3 cm, obtuse to subacute; standards oblanceolate, 3.5-5 x 0.4-0.6 cm, uniformly blue, violet or purple; style branches 3-4 x 0.5-0.9 cm, lobes 0.6-1.4 x 0.2-0.5 cm, obtuse to acute, sometimes dentate. Capsule erect, carried at or just above ground level. 2n 20.
