Corm sometimes producing stolons; tunic thinly membranous with parallel or weakly reticulate fibres. Leaves hysteranthous but previous season's occasionally persisting until anthesis, 1.5-3 mm broad. Prophyll present. Bracteole absent. Throat of perianth glabrous, yellow; segments 2.5-4 x 0.5-1 cm, obtuse to subacute, deep yellow. Filaments 0.7-1.1 cm, yellow, glabrous; anthers 0.6-1.1 cm, creamy-yellow. Style dividing into 3 short orange branches, each slightly fimbriate. 2n=8. Fl. 7-9. Damp alpine turf nr streams,2300-3500m.
