Corm tunic fibrous, fibres interwoven. Leaves 5-8, synanthous, 0.5-1 mm broad. Prophyll absent. Bracteole present. Throat of perianth glabrous, yellow; segments 1.7-3.1 x 0.4-0.6 cm, acute, white, suffused yellow near base and usulilly stained purple at base and on tube. Filaments 5-6 mm, yellow, minutely papillose at base; anthers 5-8 mm, yellow. Style dividing into at least 6 and usually many more slender orange to scarlet branches. 2n = 20. Fl.1-3. Open rocky hillsides or in Quercus coccifera/Pinus macchie, 750-1300 m.
