Annual herb, 15-30 cm, covered with simple hairs. Leaflets 8-12 x 5-7 mm, obovate, sometimes nearly cuneate, obtuse to truncate; stipules ± toothed. Peduncles 1-2-flowered, longer than petiole. Flowers about 6 mm. Calyx teeth as long as tube. Corolla less than 2 x calyx. Young fruit contracted inside the calyx. Fruit shortly cylindrical, about 5 mm high, spineless, glabrous; coils 3-5 , loose, at maturity thick and hard, 5-6 mm diam.; surface of coils with about 15 thickened radial veins only branching distally, with thick, oblique folds linking the submarginal vein to the marginal vein. 2n = 16. Fl. 4-5. Heavy calcareous soils, in Pinus brutia and Quercus aegilops forests, ruins, 400-1000 m.
