Rhizomatous, deciduous shrublet to 30 cm; stem angled, sparsely puberulent or not. Leaves shortly petiolate, lamina ovate to elliptic, 0,9-2,8 x 0,7-1,8 cm, margin serrulate. Inflorescence of single flowers in axils of first 1-4 leaves produced in spring; pedicel c. 7 mm in fruit, glabrous, continuous with fruit. Flowers 5-merous. Calyx lobes 0,5-1 mm, ± connate. Corolla pale greenish-red, urceolate, 4-5,5 x c. 5 mm. Stamens 10; filaments 1,2-1,6 mm; anthers 2-2,5 mm, tubules 0,8-1 mm, dehiscing by slits, spurs equalling tubules. Ovary 5-locular; style c. 5,5 mm. Fruit dark purple, glaucous. Fl. 5-7. Acid habitats, among Rhododendron caucasicum, Pinus or Juniperus, 1280-2700 m.
