Like M. hirsuta but usually less than 10 cm, densely tufted, almost cushion forming, only the upper stems and pedicels glandular-pubescent; bracts 3-5-veined, the uppermost always 3-veined; sepals often ovate, acuminate, 3-5veined, the innermost usually 3-veined; petals not or a little longer than sepals.
