Sparsely pilose to glabrous, sometimes stoloniferous biennial or perennial. Stems 1 to numerous, erect, 20-50 cm, angular at base of decurrent petioles. Leaves obtusely crenate; basal and lower cauline rounded-spathulate to obovate-elliptic, 10-30 x 5-10 mm, obtuse, narrowed into petiole to 2 cm; median oblong-lanceolate, sessile, ± amplexicaul, ± acute; uppermost lanceolate, acute. Flowers erect, pedicellate, in paniculate or ± corymbose inflorescence. Calyx lobes erect to patent, linear-lanceolate, 10-12 mm, glabrous, rarely ciliate, longer than obconical ovary. Corolla narrowly conical-infundibular, 20-30 x 10-15 mm, divided to 1/3 into acute lobes, glabrous, violet-blue. Style included. Stigmas 3. Capsule obconical, ribbed, 6-7 x 5 mm, opening by 3 subapical pores. Seeds oblong, 0·6 x 0·3 mm, brown, shiny. 2n = 20 + 1-4B. FI. 5-9. Forests, alpine meadows, rocky and grassy slopes, 150-2700 m.
