Small tree up to 12 m, or 1-2 m shrub. Young shoots 4-sided, glabrous or pubescent like the short petioles. Heartwood yellowish-white, sap wood paler. Leaves ovate-elliptic, 2-3 x as long as broad, 1,5-3.5 x 0.5-1.5 cm, dark green above, paler yellowish-green below. Flower clusters c. 5 mm across. Anthers 1-1,5 mm, Capsule 7-8 mm, styles 2-3 mm. Seeds oblong-elliptic. Fl. 4; fro  7-9. Mixed deciduous forest , hillside scrub and rocks, 100-2000 m; calcifuge.
