Eglandular perennial with elongate blackish rhizome. Stems 12-40 cm, simple, patent-setulose. Leaves acute to acuminate, adpressed-pubescent and sparsely adpressed-setulose; basal ± long-petiolate, petiole to 20 cm, blade ovate, cordate, 5-14 x 3.5-9.5 cm; cauline lanceolate or ovate to elliptic, sessile. Cymes ebracteate, terminal, forming a lax paniculate or corymbiform inflorescence. Calyx 1.5 mm, slightly accrescent to c. 2.75 mm in fruit. Corolla blue, tube c. 1.5 mm, limb 3.5-7 mm diam., rotate. Nutlets 2.5-4 mm, obliquely oblong-obovoid, longitudinally weakly ribbed, rugose and tuberculate. Fl. 3-5. Picea forest, grassy banks, 500-2000 m.
