Scabrous annual, branching sparingly at or near the base. Stems 15-30 cm high, spreading, striate to angular. Basal leaves simple, round-elliptic to cuneateobovate, coarsely crenate to dentate; cauline leaves 1-2-pinnate, leaflets sessile, ovate to cuneate-obovate, crenate. Umbels 5-10-rayed, rays very unequal, scabrous, central umbellules subsessile. Bracts 3-5, deflexed, scabrous; bracteoles 5, very unequal, oblanceolate-spathulate with coarsely ciliate margins, longest ones 2-3 x as long as fruiting pedicels. Flowers small, white, 8-12 per umbellule. Mericarps broadly elliptic to orbicular, 10-12 x9-12 mm, with very short pedicels or sessile; abaxial face with papillae and stiff hairs, margins strongly moniliform with short conical spines. Dorsal vittae 4, commissural 2. 2n = 20. Fl. 4-5. Open hillsides, edges of fields, roadsides, s.I.-1100 m.
