Bulb ovoid, 8-12 mm diam.; outermost tunics greyish, crustaceous, pitted with numerous minute round perforations. Stem 10-25 cm, terete, glabrous or more often minutely pubescent below. Leaves narrowly linear, 2-3 mm broad, somewhat shorter than stem; lamina and sheaths glabrous or more often minutely pubescent . Spathe 2-valved; valves 7-10 mm, acuminate. Umbel hemispherical, 2.5-5 cm diam., lax, 3-7-flowered. Pedicels 15-25 mm, erect, subequal. Perianth campanulate; segments white with pink or mauve midvein, turning pink at end of anthesis, narrowly oblong, 7-10 mm, obtuse. Stamens shorter than perianth. Capsule hemispherical, brown, much shorter than perianth. Fl. 6-7. Pinus and mixed forests, Quercus macchie and scrub, near snow patches, meadows, streamsides, rocky limestone slopes, fields, 1000-2800 m.
