Biennial. Flowering stems 40-80 cm, ± erect, slender, leafy ± at the base. Leaves glaucous, rigid, margins scabrid. Inflorescence simple or branched, laxly flowered. Bracts 15-20 mm, lanceolate to narrowly ovate. Fruiting pedicels 15-25 mm, jointed above, at or below the middle. Perianth segments 15-18 mm, white. Capsule globose, 6-7 mm diam. Fl. 5-7. Clearings in Pinus forest, fallow fields, steppe, 1000-1850 m.
