Biennial, 35-125 cm, with dense cobwebby indumentum of long, simple or branched eglandular hairs below, shorter eglandular hairs and stalked glands above. Stem robust, terete or subangular, simple or branched. Basal leaves oblong to elliptic, 4-20 x 1,5-8 cm, crenate, with petiole 2-7 cm; cauline smaller, upper lanceolate, acuminate, entire. Inflorescence lax, simple or branched. Bracts linear-lanceolate to linear, acute or acuminate. Pedicels 3-10 mm, ebracteolate. Calyx 6-11 mm, lobes linear or linear-oblong, obtuse or acute. Corolla violet-purple, 25-40 mm diam., without pellucid glands, with articulate eglandular hairs outside. Filaments with purple-violet hairs, 2 anterior glabrous near apex, their anthers 2,5-3,5 mm, decurrent. Capsule broadly elliptic, 6-10 x 4-6 mm, densely tomentose. Fl. 5-8. Pastures, steppe, crop fields, fallowfields, 400-1500 m.
