Biennial, 50-200 cm, densely greyish or yellowish woolly-tomentose, often glabrescent, eglandular. Stem robust, obtusely angled, branched. Basal leaves 15-40 x 3-13 cm, oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate, distinctly or shallowly crenate to entire, acute to acuminate; petiole winged, 1-5 cm; upper cauline broadly ovate to cordate-orbicular, caudate. Inflorescence many-branched, forming oblong or pyramidal panicle, with congested, later lax, clusters of 2-5 flowers. Bracts orbicular to broadly ovate, acuminate. Pedicels indistinct or to 5 mm; bracteoles broadly ovate. Calyx 6-10 mm, lobes linear-lanceolate, acuminate. Corolla 25-40 mm diam., without pellucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers. Capsule broadly ovate, 6-7 x 5-6 mm, tomentose. Fl. 5-10. Pinus forest, Quercus scrub, pastures, cornfields, 110-2570 m.
