Biennial, 50-120 cm, densely adpressed white floccose-tomentose, glabrescent, eglandular. Stem slender, terete, many-branched. Basal leaves lanceolate to oblong and broadly ovate, 9-30 x 3-12 cm, usually coarsely obtusely crenate, sometimes crenulate, petiole 3-10 cm; cauline similar but smaller, upper sessile, ovate to lanceolate, crenulate to entire. Inflorescence with numerous slender branches, forming oblong panicle, with ± congested clusters of 2-9 or more flowers. Bracts broadly lanceolate, acuminate, upper linear, acutish. Pedicels to 5 mm; bracteoles minute. Calyx 1-2,5 mm, lobes linear-oblong. Corolla yellow, 8-15 mm diam., without pellucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool, 2 anterior glabrous near apex. Capsule oblong-cylindrical to ovate, 2,5-4 x 1,5-2,5 mm, tomentose, glabrescent. Fl. 6-8. Coniferous forest, Quercus scrub, limestone rocks, 830-1900 m.
