Low rhizomatous perennial. Leaves all cauline, the lower reduced to scales, the upper sessile with linear laciniae. Flowers 30-35 mm across. Petals yellow, 2-3 x sepals. Achenes in a round head, not reticulate, pubescent, with a deflexed, subuncinate beak. Fl. 3-4. Mountain steppe.
