Perennial, suffruticose, stem branched at base. Leaves oblong to lanceolate-spathulate, obtuse, rounded or acute, gradually tapering into long petiole. Scapes strongly dichotomously branched from base; sterile branches numerous in lower part. Spikes compact, unilateral. Spikelets 3-4-flowered, 8-10 mm, distinctly curved. Bracts rusty-brown; outer bract ovate-triangular, 1-1.5 mm, with narrow hyaline margin; first inner bract similar, hyaline; second inner bract oblong-ovate, 4 x as long as outer bract, strongly concave, enclosing the flowers, hyaline-margined. Calyx ±infundibular; tube curved, pilose on veins; limb 5-lobed, lobes ovate, obtuse. Petals light violet. 2n =27. Fl. 6-10. Sea shores, maritime rocks, saline waste fields, on walls, nr s.l-20 m.
