Plants 15-40 cm. Leaf ligulate or broadly lanceolate, olive-green, longitudinally striped above with brownish-purple, flushed with purple beneath. Spike to 18 cm. Bracts much shorter than ovary. Flowers adpressed to rachis. Sepalhood ovate, with the tips free, dusty greenish outside, greyish-purple spotted inside. Petals linear, 4-6 mm. Labellum olive- or yellowish-green, tinged with purple towards base; lateral lobes small, rounded; middle lobe ligulate, to 6 mm. Spur 4 mm, adpressed to ovary, apex usually distinctly biconical. Fl. 4-5. Coniferous and deciduous forest, grassy places on forest edges, Quercus scrub, Corylus coppices, on calcareous soil, s.l.-1300 m.
