Tunics densely lined with matted, woolly hairs. Leaves 3-4, glaucous, often undulate, glabrous or upper ones ciliate, broadly lanceolate, 6-20 x 2-4.5 cm. Flowers scarlet or orange-red; blotch short, black, edged yellow or not, back of outer perianth segments with whitish bloom giving pink, or with yellow flush giving orange effect. Outer perianth segments ovate to rhombic-elliptic, 27-45 x 13-20 mm, acute or acuminate; inner oblong-obovate to narrowly obovate, rounded, 22-40 x 10-15 mm. Filaments 7-9 mm, black; anthers 6.5-10 mm, yellow or purple. Capsule 25-38 mm, shortly stipitate, apiculate. Fl. 5. Dry stony, grassy slopes, 1650-2400 m.
