Tunics brown, coriaceous; hairs soft and crinkly below, stiffer and more bristly above, protruding. Leaves 3-5, narrow, erect, glaucous, channelled, to 25 x 2 cm, linear-lanceolate. Flowers white with a small purple blotch; outer perianth segments red edged white outside, 45-65 x 10-19 mm, elliptic; inner 50 x 8-15 mm, narrowly obovate. Filaments, anthers and pollen purple. Fl. 4. Damp fields, 180-400 m.
Native from Iran to N. Pakistan; naturalised in S. Europe.
