Stem 15-45 cm. Leaves usually 8, lowest 5-8 x 0.5-1.7 cm, opposite or subopposite, upper in a whorl of 3, 5-11 x 0.3-1.0 cm. Perianth broadly campanulate; segments green, often tinged reddish-brown but not tessellated; outer 2.4-4.5 x 0.8-1.0 cm, usually acute, inner 1-1.5 cm broad, obtuse. Nectaries 3 mm diam., circular, blackish,5 mm above perianth base. Filaments 12 mm, papillose. Style 12-15 mm, 3-fid; branches 5-7 mm, slender, smooth. Capsule with 6 narrow longitudinal wings. Fl. 4-5. Open woods and scrub, 30-1200 m.
