Similar to S. salviifolia in its creeping mat-like habit, but differing by being glabrous throughout or very sparsely puberulous, with more slender procumbent stems; leaves subentire to obscurely crenate, not rugose ; bracts subsessile, elliptic to narrowly ovate; and corolla purple-red, pinkish-purple or magenta-red with lighter markings on lower lip, never yellow, 22-25 mm. Fl. 7-8. Grassy slopes and banks, rocky outcrops, 1800-2700 m.
