Plant 6-12 cm. Bulb 1.5-2 diam. Leaves 4-10, poorly developed, erect and narrow at anthesis, elongating later to 10-20 x 0.5-1 cm, lanceolate, becoming falcate, glossy green above, green or slightly greyish-green below; margin scabrid or ciliate, transparent or greenish, usually not markedly white. Stem nearly absent and completely concealed by leaves, not elongating after anthesis. Bract membranous, rounded to subacute. Flowers solitary, violet-blue or lilac-blue, usually much darker at tip of lamina of falls with a whitish, dark-spotted zone surrounding crest; perianth tube 5.5-9 cm; falls spreading nearly horizontally, 3.5-5.2 cm; claw winged, 2.3-3.5 x 1.7-3 cm, lamina oblong, 1-1.7 x 1.4-1.7 cm, apex rounded, crest prominent, papillose or pubescent, yellow or orange; standards patent or deflexed, spathulate, obovate or oblanceolate, sometimes ± 3-lobed or irregularly toothed, 1-2.5 x 0.6-0.7 cm; style branches 3-4.5 cm. Capsule ellipsoid-eylindrical, 3-3.5 cm; seeds 3-4 mm.
