Corm tunic membranous, sometimes splitting lengthways at base. Leaves 3-6, synanthous, 1.5-3 mm wide, glabrous. Prophyll absent. Bracteole present, narrower than bract. Throat of perianth yellow, glabrous; segments unequal, lanceolate to ovate, subacute to obtuse. usually pale to deep lilac-blue , with a white zone above the yellow base, outside of outer segments silvery or buff-coloured and speckled darker at base; outer segments 2.8-3.8 x 0.9-1.5 cm; inner 1.9-3 x0.6-1.2 cm. Filaments c. 5 mm long, yellow, glabrous; anthers 7-10 mm long, yellow. Style divided into 3 orange to red branches, the branches slightly thickened and frilled at the apex, usually exceeding the anthers. Fl. 3. In Quercus/Fagus/Pinus/Juniperus woodland, maquis and fields, 700-1400 m.
