Corm often producing stolons; tunic finely reticulate-fibrous. Leaves 3-4, synanthous, c. 2 mm broad. Prophyll absent. Bracteole absent. Throat of perianth yellow, glabrous; segments deep yellow or orange, 1.5-4.5 x 0.6-1.3 cm, obtuse to rounded. Filaments 3-7 mm, yellow, pubescent; anthers 0.6-1.1 cm, yellow. Style dividing into 3 slightly fimbriate orange branches. 2n 30. Fl. 4-5. Damp pastures and sparse pinewoods, 1300-2200 m.

Differs from subsp. gargaricus by its corms emitting stolons and with finely reticulate-fibrous tunics. Fl. 4. Wet meadows. 1370-2200 m.
