Internodes short. Leaves 15-30 x 2-5 mm, acute, minutely denticulate, lower ones opposite or in whorls of 3, middle and upper ones in whorls of 4-5. Sepals 3-4 mm; petals white, c. 10 mm. Fl. 7. Naturalised in artificial pond.
S. America; locally naturalised in N.W. & C. Europe, N. America, Africa and E. Asia.
