Plant 5-10 cm, with dense indumentum of long spreading hairs. Leaves trifoliolate; leaflets linear-lanceolate, acute, 10-30 x 3-6 mm, often folded. Peduncle 3-4 cm. Flowers in depressed spherical to ovate heads, 2,5-5 x 3-4 cm. Outer bracts linear-lanceolate, long acuminate. Calyx 16-18 mm, somewhat longer than corolla, teeth subequal. Corolla 15-17 mm, purple, petals glabrous. Fl. 6-7. Stony slopes, 1300-1750 m.
