Caespitose annual. Stems 20-50 cm. Leaves 2-4 mm broad, shorter than stems. Inflorescence a simple or compound umbel of dense heads. Rays 3-8, to 2 cm, Spikelets patent, 2-8 x c.1 mm, linear, with 10-15 flowers. Rachilla not winged. Glumes only 0.5-0.7 x c, 0.5 mm, broadly obovate to suborbicular, obtuse, brownish with pallid centre and greenish median vein. Stamen 1. Nut 0.5 mm, broadly obovate-elliptic, trigonous, minutely apiculate, buff. Stigmas 3. Fl. 7-8. Moist hollows behind dunes, rice fields etc., s.l-c. 820 m.
