Stems procumbent or ascending, 15-45 cm, glabrous or with eglandular hairs or papillae below, glandular above. Leaves obovate, shortly petiolate, fleshy. Inflorescence ± dense, many-flowered. Calyx c. 4 mm, tubular, densely covered with long glandular hairs; teeth c. 1/3 length of calyx. Petals linear, c.5 mm, emarginate. Capsule ovoid, c. 3·5 mm, borne on a short carpophore. Fl. 5. Salt marshes.
Endemic. A distinct salt marsh endemic, intermediate between Saponaria and Gypsophila, allied to S. picta. It clearly differs from this E. Turkish endemic in the broader fleshy leaves, the sessile flowers, the tubular calyx and the very short petals.
