Probably annual or biennial, usually with short compact stems up to 9 cm. Stems glabrous or sparsely and shortly pubescent. Leaves 1,5-4 x 1-2 mm, oblanceolate to broadly elliptic, sometimes fleshy, either glabrous or with rather stiff whitish hairs on the margins and sometimes also on the upper surface, especially near the apex; stipules ciliate. Flowers 1-1,5 mm, in very dense clusters, often contiguous on short lateral branches, and purple-tinged. Sepals 5, minutely but conspicuously hirsute with spreading whitish hairs c. 0,1 mm. Fruit exceeding the sepals, with a sessile stigma of 2 divergent lobes. Fl. 5-7. Open stony ground on mountains, 1200-1900 m.
