Perennial with woody rhizome, finely pubescent with mostly eglandular hairs below, glandular-hairy above; stems ascending, 40-80 cm. Leaves fleshy, oblanceolate-cuneate, obtuse, apiculate or acute, 2-10 cm x 3-17 mm, often congested at base of stem. Inforescence dichotomously branched, flowers congested. Bracts triangular-lanceolate, ± scarious. Pedicels densely glandular-hairy, 5-10 mm. Calyx campanulate, glandular-pubescent, red-suffused, 3-5 mm, teeth ovate, acuminate. Petals pink, oblong, obtuse to emarginate, 4-6 mm. Seeds with acute tubereles. Fl. 6-8. Salt marshes, 950-1050 m.
Endemic; lr.-Tur. element. Near to G. perfoliata but differing by its oblanceolate leaves, congested glandular-hairy inflorescence and longer calyx with acuminate teeth.
