Annual, 25-85 cm, all parts densely long-pubescent. Leaves flat, green, lower long-shoot leaves 40-80 x 2-6 mm, linear-lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, obtuse to acute. Stems freely branched, flowers in fascicles, pedicels 0,5-1,5 mm. Bracts leaf-like, about as long as the inflorescence. Bracteoles lanceolate or ovate, equalling or longer than the calyx. Calyx 16-19 x 2-3 mm, narrowed above, green or purplish, teeth 5-8 mm, linear, aristate. Petal limb dark but intense red, sometimes with white spots, 3-4 mm, narrowly ovate, barbulate, dentate.
