Like B. arvensis but stem 5-15 cm in flower, greatly elongating in fruit; pedicels swollen in fruit, obconical to clavate; calyx asymmetrically accrescent, abaxial side greatly enlarged, base becoming somewhat cupulate; corolla usually blue; nutlets 2-3 x 1·5-2 mm, impressed in oblique gynobase, rugose-scrobiculate and tuberculate. Fl. 4-6. Cedrus forest, limestone rocks, steppe, cultivated fields, river banks, nr. s.I.-1700 m.
