Similar to L. officinale L. but stem 30-50 cm, branched in upper ½ only, patent-hispid to pubescent, especially above; calyx lobes 5-7 mm, linear, acute; corolla 12-20 mm, magenta at first, becoming bright blue; tube longer than calyx; limb cup-shaped; nutlets 3,5-5 x 3-3,5 mm, ovoid-globose. Fl. 3-6. Under Carpinus, Cornus, Laurus, Quercus coccifera and Rhododendron, phrygana and macchie, 20-1100 m.
