Glabrous or pubescent perennial. Stems 50-100 cm, often purplish at base. All leaves dentate, glabrous or pubescent. Basal leaves narrowly elliptic, at base attenuate into petiole, teeth increasing in size towards base; cauline lanceolate, amplexicaul. Capitula radiate, 10 to many in a compound raceme, 2-4 cm broad. Phyllaries 7-12 mm, broadly lanceolate, sparsely hairy or glabrous, apex dark, hairy. Calycular bracts lanceolate, 4-6 mm. Ligules 10-20 mm, yellow. Achenes c. 4 mm, glabrous or sparsely hairy near top. Pappus 6-8 mm, whitish. Fl. 6-8. Water meadows, mountain steppe, 1300-2500 m.
