Perennial . Stems 35-80 cm, smooth, white-arachnoid above. Basal and lower leaves oblanceolate in outlinei 6-23 x 3-5 cm, glabrescent above, densely white-arachnoid below, segments ovate to suborbicular with 3-7 prickly triangular lobes; uppermost leaves becoming much smaller and ± simple. Capitula pedunculate, 2,5-3,5 x 4-5 cm. Phyllaries ovate-subulate, sparsely arachnoid, outermost reflexed, median patent. Flowers exceeding inner phyllaries, pinkish-purple. Achenes c. 5 x 1,5 mm. Pappus c 15 mm. Fl. 5-7. Open Pinus brutia woods, among boulders nr sea, s.l.-800m.
