Perennial with a woody rootstock with sterile rosettes and erect stems up to 35 cm, simple or with 1-2 short branches. Leaves thinly adpressed-tomentose , narrowly lanceolate, entire, basal and lower petiolate, others sessile with narrowed base, 10-20 mm broad. Involucre 28-35 x 20-27 mm, ovoid. Appendages large, totally concealing basal part of phyllaries, strawy, ± circular, nor decurrent, margin lacerate to ciliate , ending in a terminal 2-9 mm spine. Flowers yellow, marginal not radiant, with staminodes. Achenes 7-7,5 mm; pappus 5-6 mm, barbellate, inner row 1,5 mm. Fl. 7. Pinus nigra forest, c. 1700 m.
