Bulb 0.5-2 cm diam.; tunics brown, scales pinkish or whitish. Leaves 2 , broadly linear, 7-19 cm x3-15 mm, usually sheathing lower part of scape. Scape solitary, erect, 5-28 cm. Raceme 1-15-flowered, often subsecund; pedicels erect or suberect, lower to 5 cm, upper much shorter. Bracts absent or ovate-lanceolate, 0.5-1 mm. Perianth segments bright blue, lilac-blue or bluish-purple, 5-10 x 1.5-2.5 mm, spreading. Filaments 0.5-1 mm broad at base. Ovary obovoid or subglobose, 2-3 mm diam. Style straight, 2-4.5 mm. Seeds subglobose, c. 2 mm diam., brown with white irregular caruncle. 2n = 18,36. Fl. 2-6. Woods, grassland, limestone rocks, by snow, 80-2400 m.
