Bulb 2.5-4.5 cm diam. Leaves 5-12, lorate, hysteranthous, flat, not keeled, often twisted longitudinally, 8-16 mm broad, grey-green. Scape normally subterranean at anthesis, sheathed by elongate neck of bulb. Bract 5-10 cm. Flower deep yellow or greenish-yellow, sessile. Perianth tube 3-6.5 cm; segments obovate or oblanceolate, 3.7-7.5 x 1.1-3.3 cm. Filaments c. 2-4 cm. Seeds strophiolate. Fl. 10-11. Fields, stony hillsides and sparse Pinus woods, 475-1700 m.
