Bulb ovoid, 1-2 cm diam.; outer tunics membranous or coriaceous; bulblets white or yellowish, acuminate, stalked and enclosed within sheaths of lower part of stem. Stem 50-90 cm. Leaves 2-6, fistulose, 1-4 mm broad, semicylindrical, canaliculate; spathe 2-valved, shortly beaked, persistent. Umbel globose or very broadly ovoid, 1.5-5 cm diam. Pedicels unequal. Perianth cylindrical, narrowly ovoid or ovoid-oblong; segments dark reddish-purple, rarely white, 3.5-5 mm; outer narrowly ovate or oblong-lanceolate, keeled, obtuse or subacute, smooth or more rarely scabrid on surface; inner rounded at apex, obtuse. Stamens exserted; median cusp of inner filaments 1-2 x basal lamina and as long as or somewhat longer than lateral cusps. Capsule c. 4 mm.
